Jon Spitz Retiring After 42 Years
9/20/2023 – David Doedtman, President of Washington Savings Bank announces the retirement of Jon Spitz, Executive Vice President, and Mattoon Market President on September 30, 2023.
After 43 years in the banking industry, the mark he leaves behind on his community is immeasurable.
Jon began his banking career in 1980 with First National Bank in Mattoon as a Consumer Lender and Collector. He joined First Federal Savings and Loan in 1981 where he held many rolls including a Loan Officer and at other times a Teller. Eventually, he went on to become President of the bank in 2002 and continued in that role until October 2015 when First Federal Savings and Loan merged with Washington Savings Bank.
In retirement, Jon looks forward to being able to spend more time with his wife, family, and especially his five grandkids. You can count on him to stay busy between fishing, golfing, time at the lake, and helping around at the family farms. When asked what advice he would give to the younger generations in the workforce he recommends finding a career that you are passionate about. He also encourages everyone to help others whenever possible. The quickest way to success is to help others succeed first.
